“Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.” –Victor Hugo
Based on the smiling faces in the photo gallery below, we’d say that there was plenty of sunshine to eclipse the frigid temperature, ice, and snow present at The Winter Games Polar Plunge. This event is held every year to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Pennsylvania. This polar plunge is a part of a string of polar plunges throughout the state. Unfortunately, this year’s Special Olympics Winter Games were cancelled, but that didn’t stop the community from still supporting the athletes through this fundraiser.
AmeriCorps members from PMSC were an integral part of this event. Members supported this event from set up to tear down. One member was the event’s mascot, they helped with check in, members were wave leaders for the plungers, they helped with traffic flow, and more. This year’s event marked 7 years of PMSC providing our support through member service. It’s a great day to come together and give back to a wonderful cause. We were even able to catch up with a PMSC AmeriCorps Alum, Miss Pennsylvania 2021, Meghan Sinisi. Meghan was all smiles as she too was in attendance to show her support of this cause.
Check out the photos below to spot our members! They’ll be the one’s proudly sporting that AmeriCorps ‘A’.
