Andrew Kilpatrick stopped by his former National Service host site, Ferndale Elementary School, in Johnstown, PA., to share the good news with fellow AmeriCorps Alum, Nola Barton. Nola is the Elementary School Librarian.
With Nola’s encouragement, Andrew applied for and was awarded a paid internship position with a Pittsburgh area library.
Andrew served at Ferndale in 2016,after graduating with a degree in theater arts. During his term he collaborated with Nola, who served two AmeriCorps terms in an environmental position 2007-2009. Both Andrew and Nola used their education award to advance their studies.
Andrew loves theatre, Nola loves science, and they both love books! Nola said, “Because librarians get to teach everything, we get to share our subject matter expertise through literature”.
AmeriCorps is more than service to our communities. It’s also about career exploration, connections and support from the ever growing AmeriCorps family.
