PMSC AmeriCorps Member, Kylie Schultz, recently completed her first year of national service in Environmental Stewardship with the Westmoreland Conservation District.
Focusing on watershed protection, reducing erosion, and controlling storm water, Schultz made lasting impact on protecting water quality and controlling storm water runoff in Westmoreland County. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, Schultz put her knowledge and passion toward serving her community–not only working hands-on day-to-day across the county, but educating young and old in conservation and resource protection in order to make lasting impact into the next generation and beyond.
All the most effective AmeriCorps Members face challenges head-on during their years of service–Kylie Schultz is no exception! Overcoming her fear of managing and leading large project sites, Schultz leaned fully into her spirit of service and passion for the environment in order to get things done outside of her comfort zone.
Now, after a year of intense and rewarding service, Kylie takes on a new position at Westmoreland Conservation District–Watershed Specialist. Working full-time for the WCD, Schultz says she will need to “determine threats to water quality” and address “pollution sources with the correct solutions.” Ultimately, Kylie will work to improve the water quality of Westmoreland through grant writing, water testing, and conducting streambank inspections. Ms. Schultz’s new work will benefit all the residents of Westmoreland and beyond–it is safe to say that PMSC AmeriCorps members like Kylie show what it truly means to get things done for Western, PA and to bring out the best of America.
Thank you to Kylie Schultz for outstanding service to her community and her nation.
