PMSC AmeriCorps members serve directly with non-profits, schools, and government agencies to tackle Southwestern/Southcentral Pennsylvania’s most pressing challenges in environmental stewardship, health & wellness, and K-12 education. 2024-2025 is PMSC AmeriCorps 30th year of getting things done for Pennsylvania and for America.
From March 9-15, 2025, host site partners, supporters, staff, and members are celebrating the incredible accomplishments and contributions of PMSC AmeriCorps members who serve across 15 counties and 10,000 miles in communities across Southwestern/Southcentral, Pennsylvania, PMSC AmeriCorps members make a difference--- one smile, one acre, one decodable reader, one native plant, one life-skills lesson, one outreach event, one encouraging word, one bushel, one tributary, one math fact, one hygiene supply: one day at a time.
These are selfless community servants who get things done to bring out the very best of America. Since 1994, 2,995 members have given of their time, skill, and talent in a dedicated term of National Service through PMSC AmeriCorps. Over the past 30 years, Education Academic Success members have empowered 205, 977 of PA’s K-12 learners in literacy, math, and social/emotional well-being. Healthy Futures members have assisted and cared for: 222,105 of PA’s individual children, youth, and adults in housing, food, mental and physical health crises. Environmental Stewardship members made 634.26 miles of PA’s trails and waterways cleaner, safer, and healthier. And, these individuals of all backgrounds, ages, and levels of experience have contributed a combined total of: 4,000,279.50 hours to make PA’s people, land, & water --healthier, safer, & stronger.
These are the faces of the 2024-2025 PMSC AmeriCorps team-- difference makers every single day. AmeriCorps works for America.

Recently, PMSC members Addie Byrum and Lilee Lux, were in the Allegheny National Forest with Western Pennsylvania Conservancy inserting Large Woody Material (LWM) into and across streams. LWM involves felling trees which mimics natural processes in order to create and improve fish habitat, reduce stream bank erosion, widen the floodplain, and prevent flooding downstream. As AmeriCorps members, they are stewarding PA's public lands-- making America healthier, safer & stronger each and every day. Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 #NationalServiceWorks #gettingthingsdone


Educating, empowering, celebrating, challenging: Americans serving Americans. That's just who we are: PMSC AmeriCorps. Marsha Chaney and the team at Gallery on Gazebo engaged local artists in a special community history exhibit for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service; Kayla Blackford, Terri Duffy, Jenna Elizabeth, Brayden Smith engaged hundreds of students at Conemaugh Township Area School District in service to their community with a supply drive (students brough in over 1,000 items!) to benefit the clients of Victim Services Inc. and Women's Help Center, Inc.; Roxann Durham created a special lesson for 5th grade Claysburg-Kimmel School District learners on improving their communities and being of service to others. #MLKDay The weather delays did not dissuade these awesome members from #gettingthingsdone for their communities!







#gettingthingsdone with PMSC AmeriCorps members for #MLKDayofService 2025 this week-- Ma'Kiyah Beauford and the team at ARIN Intermediate Unit 28 hosted a Blood Drive with the American Red Cross; Zhorea McAnuff is hosting an essentials drive to benefit community members served by UPMC Altoona Family Physicians Residency Program; Catherine Duman (Portage Area School District) is helping beautify a local community gathering space Portage Public Library; and Destiny Kasempiriyakorn (Central Cambria School District) and Charley Hoffman (Spring Cove School District) are challenging their learners with special lessons on community building and the life of #MLK. #MLKDayofService projects are off an running already as PMSC AmeriCorps engage children, youth, and adults in service and #community building: Natalie and Katie are environmental stewardship PMSC members serving with Armstrong Conservation District who partnered with Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank at the Armstrong County Drive-Up Food distribution, serving over 400 families and helping to distribute over 12,000 pounds of fresh food. Elizabeth Carr serves with Forest Hills School District and Alicia serves with Central Fulton School District as school-based education members. They engaged their learners in creative lessons on building community and bridging divides in honor of #MLKDay2025 because #NationalServiceWorks. #pmscamericorpsyear30 still #gettingthingsdone.
