The Alumni Analysis
Wendy Clevenger- A Life of Civil Service
Welcome to our first installment of The Alumni Analysis, where we share the stories of our AmeriCorps Alumni. A big thank you to Wendy Clevenger who shared her story and photographs with us.
The Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps was formed in 1994 and Wendy Clevenger was a part of that historic group. During her two years of service, Wendy made a great impact on her community.
One public service project that Wendy helped create was titled, “Lead-free Louie.” Along with other team members, including our current Program Director, Carol Overly, Wendy and her team developed a lead poisoning prevention program. This program included a puppet show for kids and educational materials for adults. The team would travel across the region to perform puppet shows and share the information with schools and community groups.
Another project Wendy focused on was the creation of a children’s book, “My Mommy’s in Prison.” After interviewing mothers in prison, Wendy helped create, not only this book, but other educational resources to share with families facing the same issues.
Wendy is currently employed as Income Maintenance Casework Supervisor at Bedford County Assistance Office and has been with them for 22 years. She is also the Bedford County trainer and Coordinator for the county’s LIHEAP program and serves as the Medical Assistance Ombudsman for the county. Wendy’s confident, caring, and empathetic nature shines through to the clientele she serves. From her time as an AmeriCorps member to her present day career, Wendy has continued to give back to and make a difference in her community as a civil service employee.
