AmeriCorps Week 2022 officially has come to a close. As we sit back and reflect on the celebrations last week, we can see through our state virtual gathering and through the social media engagement, that AmeriCorps members and programs are doing tremendous things for the communities, environment, and people across Pennsylvania.
Along with the virtual celebration and social media daily hashtag campaign, PMSC put together a service project at one of our very own host sites. Members and staff from PMSC lent a helping hand at the Cambria County Backpack Project (CCBP) in Johnstown, PA.
The CCBP is a partnership fund of the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies, housed in The Learning Lamp. They partner with school districts throughout Cambria County to provide weekend meals to kids who face chronic hunger. Every week, they pack and distribute over 300 weekend meals. The CCBP’s volunteer efforts are coordinated by PMSC AmeriCorps member Abby Gerlach. Fellow PMSC member Julie Petro helped Abby organize the food donations so that the items would be ready and in place for the next week’s packing.
Even though AmeriCorps week only comes around once a year, we are so thankful every day to be working with our PMSC members, our host sites, and making a positive difference in the lives of so many.
