After serving a 3-year term as a PMSC Education Service Corps Member stationed at Johnstown’s Ferndale Area School District, Theresa Wolf joined the PMSC AmeriCorps Program Staff as a Regional Coordinator on June 1, 2022. Theresa looks so forward to sharing the stories of the incredible work of “getting things done” that PMSC Members engage in each and every day all across 13 counties of beautiful Southwest and South Central Pennsylvania! One of PMSC AmeriCorps key goals is to “bring out the best of America” as our “hometown domestic peace corps.” Theresa is passionate about supporting PMSC members and sharing their stories because their work in Education, Environment, and Healthy Futures is so integral to the future of all Pennsylvanians. If PMSC AmeriCorps members feel supported, encouraged, and empowered–they will succeed in immeasurable ways to benefit our local communities and the region. Wolf knows she has much to learn in this new position–and she will do her best to learn quickly, serve with humility, articulate and share the PMSC story, and support those entrusted to her care. Theresa is so grateful for this special opportunity to join the wonderful PMSC Staff and “get things done” for Pennsylvania and for America!

Alexandra Stalter- Moving Forward
“Through AmeriCorps, I am able to do what I love while also gaining invaluable experience.” Alexandra Stalter, first year member at Baker Elementary School, is making the best of her experience with her AmeriCorps service.
After hearing about the opportunity from a friend, who had also had an impactful experience through service, Alexandra was ready to take on this challenge. For her, working with children and being an educator has always been her passion. Alexandra feels that she has learned so much through her service; the day to day tasks of being an educator, how to help students who may be struggling, and how to become more flexible.
Alexandra has seen the effects that quarantine from COVID has taken on the students. She states that this has been the biggest challenge. But she knows that the hard work and dedication that she puts in everyday, is helping to lessen those effects and really help the student move forward in their education. She looks forward to the end of the year to see the progress of her students because of her interventions.
Not only is Alexandra’s service helping her students move forward in their education, she is also advancing her own career and passion too. Great job, Alexandra!
National Service Recognition Day 2022
From all of us at PMSC, we would like to THANK the Somerset County Commissioners for their support of national service and for their Proclamation of National Service Recognition Day 2022.
Celebrating AmeriCorps & National Service
AmeriCorps Week is upon us once again. As a time to celebrate AmeriCorps and National Service, we invite you to join the conversation with us!
From Sunday, March 13 through Saturday, March 19, PMSC plans to recognize our incredible members and their service to their communities. First, we plan to all gather (virtually) on Monday, March 14 for a state-wide celebration with corps from all over the state. Member stories will be shared, awards will be presented, and those participating in National Service in the state of PA will hopefully see the greater cause that they are a part of.
PMSC also plans to celebrate our members through social media. Below are our week’s hashtags to get the conversation started. Members, alumni, host sites, and AmeriCorps friends are encouraged to share posts on social media using the daily hashtags- either creating their own content or sharing what others have posted. To help get the creativity flowing, here is a great AmeriCorps Week Toolkit with downloadable graphics, sample language, and more.
We hope these conversations will inspire you to share your own stories of National Service throughout the week. And for our friends of AmeriCorps, we encourage you to reach out to those members currently serving and thank them for bringing out the best of America through their dedication to serving others.
A Season of Change for PMSC
It is with the warmest and best wishes that we at Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps announce the retirement of Carol Overly, effective May 3. Her leaving marks the end of an era for PMSC, and her presence will be greatly missed.
Carol has spent 28 years with us, 22 of which she has been Program Director. Among many other accolades during her tenure, Carol has quadrupled the size of the program and has helped to secure almost 40 million dollars in federal and local funding. Her dedication to the program and communities which we serve, has put PMSC on the map as a major constituent in National Service. Post retirement she plans to do some traveling and spend more time with her family and friends. We wish her all the best as she takes on this exciting, new chapter.
In saying good bye to Carol, PMSC is happy to welcome our new Program Director, Jill Latuch. As we transition, Jill will be co-managing PMSC with Carol over the next 8 weeks. Jill served as an AmeriCorps Member 2006-2008 and has been a Regional Coordinator with the PMSC for nearly 7 years. She is up for this task and is excited for this new adventure.
Congratulations, Carol & Good Luck, Jill
