PMSC AmeriCorps member, Taylor Solich, serves Laurel Valley Elementary School, New Florence, PA, students with humility, fun, and purpose. Providing literacy and math interventions for LV's learners, Solich is making a difference each and everyday. Serving some of the learners in most need, Solich reports, "I love helping them to stay ahead and not fall behind on their assignments and their individual learning paths. I enjoy laughing with them and making them smile.”
Serving so many students of all different ages and abilities, Solich is learning to manage her time most effectively to be able to meet student needs. Her role as a leader and community servant could easily become overwhelming, but as a lifelong resident of New Florence, Taylor sees how critical her influence on young lives can be, and she is committed to staying organized and maximizing her efforts. Investing in her own community, Solich is getting things done with and for the next generation, "reminding them and encouraging them to stay calm and be a problem solver!" She aims to help learners grow in confidence-- bringing home that pride to "their homes and communities," so that they stay on track to graduate and make lasting impacts in Southwestern, PA and beyond.
With members like Taylor Solich choosing AmeriCorps as a way to address critical community needs in their own backyards, Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps members serve over 1,800 students each year-- working in small groups and one-on-one to support learners right where they are and address individual needs. Across 15-counties and in over 30 schools across the region, members like Taylor Solich provide the support children need to tackle their toughest challenges. Taylor Solich is making Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and America-- healthier, stronger, and safer, one relationship at a time-- serving as a trusted adult that children need to thrive and reach their greatest potential.
