How will having an AmeriCorps position(s) enhance the mission of your organization?

 

Position Description: (list specific duties in bullet form):

NOTE:
*Members do not serve the staff of organizations; they serve the community through direct, visible, and measurable service to individuals, a familyor group.

*Service positions should not include clerical work, menial tasks, staff training, administration, research, or other incidental support activities, u nless such activities clearly support the direct service objectives, and the time spent on these activities are not the member’s primary responsibility.
*Members may not raise funds for the cash-match or for general operating expenses. Fundraising is limited to 10% of a member’s time.
*Members may not write grants to obtain AmeriCorps or CNCS funding, or for funding provided by any other federal agencies.
*Service should result in a specific, identifiable community service or improvement that otherwise would not have been made with existing funds.
 
The PMSC has developed four primary objectives. Please check the objective (s) that would best correlate with your proposed position. Check as many as apply.
PMSC Education team members will tutor or mentor students identified as at-risk or in need of learning support; organize or conduct service learning and community education activities; or assist in providing in school or after school educational enrichment activities for Head Start, K-12, college students, or adults.
PMSC Environmental team members will collect water samples or other environmental data, assist with GIS mapping, develop or maintain public lands, or provide environmental educational programming within the nine county region.
PMSC Human Needs team members will meet a variety of identified community needs by such support activities as case management, health or family counseling, substance abuse prevention, or life skills development
PMSC members will recruit and train community volunteers.

Tutoring Positions Only

In addition to your position description please answer the following; briefly describe how your tutors will be trained for the position:

NOTE: For all tutoring positions, the candidate must posses a minimum of a two-year college degree or your organization is responsible for administering a proficiency test in the appropriate subject(s) to your candidate. Proof of college diploma or results of the testing must be on file with the PMSC within 30 days of the start of the program year.
Please list the specific curriculum that will be used to tutor your students:
Curricula must fall under the guidelines of public law 107-110 or The National Reading Panel
