Cambria County, April 1, 2014: The Nation’s mayors increasingly recognize the benefits of National Service as an effective strategy to address city challenges. In Johnstown and Ebensburg, PMSC AmeriCorps and Foster Grandparents are having a positive and lasting impact – making Cambria County a better place to live.
In observance of the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service: Mayor Janakovic sat with AmeriCorps members and Foster Grandparents for a roundtable discussion of how National Service benefits the region. In Ebensburg Mayor Randy Datsko met with PMSC AmeriCorps members
40 PMSC AmeriCorps members and 100 Foster Grandparents serve in Cambria County.
“Community Service has always been part of the fabric of our city, and I am glad to be part of a national movement to encourage and recognize National Service as both a call to action and as a resource to our city,” said Mayor Janakovic.
The initiative for Mayors to recognize the importance of National Service is led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Cities of Service, The National League of Cities and The U.S. Conference of Mayors.
