Getting Things Done

November 30, 2007

October 4, 2007

PMSC members got together to clean up a historical location known to the community as "The Clara Barton House" but is more properly known as the Ludwig House, where Clara Barton and the Red Cross headquarters were during the 1889 Flood Relief effort. This disaster proved to be one of the first major tests of the Red Cross.
The Clara Barton House became the Gordon Mortuary which was the property's last official use. This was the first African American owned mortuary in Johnstown, owned and operated by the first female mortician in Johnstown. The property was donated to the Johnstown Area Heritage Association by the Gordon Family.
Members cleared out the contents of the property, taking out 6 truckloads of refuse including everything from mortician supplies to building materials.
