“Everybody Can Be Great, Because Everybody Can Serve”



PMSC AmeriCorps celebrated and honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  throughout the Southwest Southcentral  region of Pennsylvania. Over the weekend of service  100 plus PMSC AmeriCorps members and  citizens joined forces to make a difference in their communities and continue the conversation of peace, tolerance and service. ” Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”
Everyone who served this weekend was truly great!


Dr. King’s legacy of service traveled with members to Hyndman, PA for a locker renovation project

Renovation- AmeriCorps members traveled to Hyndman PA to paint lockers in an aging rural school where finances are stretched thin.

Student Mural-Students, staff, and AmeriCorps members joined forces to create a 20 x 4 foot mural depicting leaders who inspired through service.  Students and AmeriCorps members sketched and painted.

Food Pantry Support – Bedford County Pennsylvania members dug in and stocked shelves, did inventory and cleaned at the local food pantry to help improve food security.


Members stretch out a donated backdrop to be used for community gathering events

Multi Use Park Planning– Members gathered to develop a multi use plan to provide community gathering activities and locations as a deterrent and alternative to the recent drug use epidemic in their community.
Mentor-Mentee MLK Activity Day– AmeriCorps members helped facilitate a Goodwill Good Guides Super Saturday focusing on the topic of compassion and tolerance using the words and messages of Dr. King.


AmeriCorps mentors finalize plans for a “SUPER” day of service, activities, and reflection inspired by Dr. King.


MLK Legacy Mural – PMSC AmeriCorps members presented an MLK day program at Latrobe Senior HS’s Center for Student Creativity for approximately 100 community adults and children that included making a MLK legacy mural.
MLK Dinner with Bigs and Littles – AmeriCorps members partnered up with “Littles” from Big Brother/Big Sisters Organization to provide a Free Will Soup and Salad dinner to the Blair County area.  All this working together to provide service to others.
