The Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps, PMSC, is a local initiative of AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps is the national service movement engaging thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds in a domestic Peace Corps. Members serve in their own communities in the areas of education, environment, public safety, and human needs. Located in Southwest/Southcentral Pennsylvania the program covers a 12 county geographic area of over 10,000 square miles.

  • Tutor/Mentor k-12 students
  • Council victims of violence and abuse
  • Teach GED classes
  • Restore housing
  • Test water quality
  • Environmental projects: remediation/
    restoration/education
  • Connect families/seniors to services
  • Teach computer class
  • Offer recreation programs
  • Drug abuse prevention
  • Mentor at risk youth/families
  • Conduct community meetings
  • Recruit and train volunteers
  • Teach kids life skills
  • Conduct ethnic/cultural fairs
  • Provide health screenings
  • Build trails
The PMSC operates under the auspices of the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 08 through grants from PennServe.
The PMSC region is divided into regions for program management.
